Founded in 1897 and now led by the third and fourth generation of the family, Wates is one of the largest privately-owned construction, development and property services companies in the UK. Our work demonstrates the longevity and commitment of a family business.
As specialists in land, planning and residential development, Wates Developments has extensive experience of providing high-quality new homes throughout southern England.
We work closely with local communities to ensure our developments are sensitive to their locations and stitch seamlessly into existing neighbourhoods.
Wates is committed to delivering balanced growth, high-quality design and sustainable communities wherever it develops.
Our vision is to become the most trusted partner in the built environment. We are dedicated to leaving a positive legacy for the communities in which we work and live.
Wates Giving is a charitable programme run by the Wates Family enterprise Trust. Since its launch in 2008 we have invested over £14.6 million in charitable activities and have supported more than 2,100 through our awards programme. Our charitable work forms a vital part of our commitment to benefitting communities for the long term. In order to make a more noticeable impact, we focus our funding over a longer period of time and three specific themes: life opportunities for young people, housing and homelessness, and sustainability.
Throughout the Covid-19 crisis Wates Giving has given grants to a number of local projects requiring additional support during this time. We’re proud of the work our employees have done throughout this period, including one employee in Greenwich who has made and issued an additional 3,000 face visors for health workers to date. We have also donated £5,000 to a Cardiff Foodbank which is seeing increased demand from those in crisis across the city. The Wates Giving programme has also provided IT equipment to school pupils working from home through a grant of £10,000 to ‘Let me Play’.
